Victory Technical Reference / Re: So many choices and so little money
« on: December 20, 2005, 06:06:37 AM »
Kevin,

I, like you, had not owned a bike for 20-years.  I actually wanted a HD Road King, but since I am 6'4" and mostly legs, the way I fit on the bike was key.  The Road King felt like a mini bike and looked that way too because my knees were above the tank.  I started my search for the best fit regardless of make or country of origin.  I looked at the Yamaha's and they are almost a carbon coby of the HD.  Fortunately the same dealer sells Victory's.  The TC first got the attention of my wife but the King Pin got mine.  I don't plan many long road trips, so I wanted something easy to handle and confortable.  The King Pin fit the bill.  I ride mostly 2-up and after 6K I really like my 04 King Pin with touring package.  My only complaint - I wish it had another gear.  Went I do get out on the highways it runs smoothest at 55 to 60 mph.  When you get up to 70 - 75, where you need to be, it's a little busy in the engine.  Another gear would get me down to about 2800 rpm at 75 mph.  Other than that, I love my choice.  It fits perfect without peg mods, looks good too, I've had people follow me for miles until I stopped just to get a look and talk about it.  I don't think you can go wrong with either choice but if you're going to be doing more open road long distance riding, I'd go for the extra gear.

Victory Fuel Control / Re: Lloydz VFC Install

Hy_Rolr,

You definately know I'm coming.  I used the stock restricter on the baffle.  I'm wondering what it would sound like if I just used the baffle with no ristricter and if it would improve or hurt performance.  I think I'll call Carchem and see if they have dyno'd with just the baffle.

So far, this VFC is working out OK.  Dobek widened the band for the spark sensor in the VFC. I've not had any more failures or going full rich.  I'll be getting a dyno tune soon.  Well see if it's working then.

Hy_Rolr

Look at your Kingpin and you'll see mine.[

Here's a copy of my August 11 post.

I'd wait if I were you.  According to George at Dobeck tech support, that they have had multilple failures and they have been working on the fix.  They had units at Lloydz being tested but they have not been able to duplicate my symptoms.  I specifically had each of the controls installed by the dealer just to make sure I did not interfere with my warranty.  I personnally observed the third install and it doesn't seem to be any way you can do it wrong. I putted in on one cylender on the second box and I got the same rich fuel sputtering symptom after about 300 more miles on the third.  It's really annoying to have to pop the cover and check for the VFC operation everytime I get on my bike.

I'm not sure which DynaJet my dealer is recommending, but he says he hasn't had any problems and has installed many of them.  I'm assuming he was talking about the most recent version of the power commander.

When I get 1000 on my bike I'll have the dynajet installed and dyno tuned.

I'll keep you posted.

I decided to give the Lloydz VFC another chance and now have 2500 miles on my 04 kingpin.  I havn't had the dyno tune yet but this is the 4th VFC.  The first 3 failed in the first 500 miles.  My mileage is 38 to 42 mpg.  I'm going in for my 2500 miles check this week and plan on getting dyno'd after that.  I'll let you know if the VFC is performing as advertised.

I'll keep you posted.

The past couple of weekends I've had some unusual experiences.  Two weeks ago I road from Reading PA to the Union Hotel in Cecil County Maryland.  It was my first visit there and is apparently a very popular bike stop.  There must have been atleast 500 bikes there.  Everything from Vengence, Big Dog, and evey other make except for one (1) Victory Kingpin. MINE.  I was very proud of the fact that they spend thousands tying to separate  themselves by one chrome bolt and all I had to do was ride out of the show room.  This last Saturday, my wife and I were on a day cruise and on the way home decided to stop a a farm stand for some fresh fruit.  When I dismounted, I heard someone say "hey, Victory man"!  A complet stranger appraoched and said he had seen me several miles down the road and decided he would follow me and was happy that I pulled over so he could get a better look.  Then on Sunday, I went a Reading Motorcycle Club event in Oley PA.  Again I was the only Victory among mostly Harley's.  As soon as I dismounted again the bike drew an immediate crowd.  Here's a pic of my Kingpin.  I'm really enjoying it.
