MR, LEE. NO PROBLEM WITH YOU MY FRIEND, JUST WAS THANKING YOU FOR GIVING US THE SAME PRICE ON THE CUP HOLDER, THATS ALL. AS FAR AS A PROBLEM WITH ME....HELL YEA.... SEVEN KIDS YOU TELL ME BRO. LOL AND I KNOW ALL ABOUT THE BIKER HOOD KINDNESS AS WELL. THANK YOU AND AS ALWAYS SAFE RIDING . PEACE . KD.  ;)

SEVEN KIDS! kd you qualify for my "Gunga-Din" discount, email me your address I'll send you cup holder as a gift.  Any man who can raise six kids and still have the energy to make a seventh deserves a gift now and then.

As long as we are on the topic I thought I'd share one of those "You can't make this stuff up" stories....Here in Austin there is a group of doctors called the Urology Team.  One of the doctors there performs more vasectomies than almost any other urologist in Texas his name is.....wait for it.....Dr. Dick Chopp.  One of his partners is a leading authority on erectile dysfunction his name is Dr. H-A-R-D-E-M-A-N.  Their office is on Jollyville Road.

You can look it up!

NOW IF I WERE TO SEEN THIS AND NEW IT WERE MADE IN THE USA, I WOULD HAVE SAID NOTHING AT ALL MY FRIEND, BUT THANKS FOR THE DISCOUNT TO GET US AT THIS PRICE . KD

 http://www.chucksleather.com/NEW-PRODUCTS-MAGnificient.html

KD thanks for catching that for me, I didn't know that Chuck had the wrong price posted on his website. I'll send him an email.  Now that that's out of the way, if I have in some way slighted you I wish you would just come out with it and state what your issue with me is.  If there is no legitimate issue then I can only assume that your repeated and consistently flawed attempts at demeaning me is the result of an issue you have with yourself and not with me.  In my experience the biker community, regardless of what a person rides, is the most generous, genuine, and caring community you'll ever find; so if there is something you need help with don't be afraid to bring it up.  I'm sure we'll all be glad to help in anyway we can.

How will these work on a bike with a tank that has a ridge or spine running down the enter of the bike?

Jim,

How much of a ridge?  My bike has a slight ridge in the middle of the tank also, but it is slight and doesn't seem to have an effect.  The outside diameter of the cup holder is 4", so if you have a 4"x4" area  anywhere on the topside of the tank it will be stable.  Feel free to email me a few pictures and I'll let you know what I think; or let me know what model you have and if the tank is stock.  I've had several Victory riders buy them already, and I'll reach out and see owns the same model and how the cup holder is working for them.

Lee, I'm sending your product infor to some riding friends of mine....hope they buy your cups holder I may even buy one for my bike, I need a place for my smart phone as I already have a cup holder.
Sorry for all the confusion about your cup holder but I think it is a learning for us all. Good Job!

Thank You, but before anyone orders one, let me give you guys a discount code.  I originally wanted to combine the discount and help a friend with a charity run by putting the discount codes on his website and ask people to go there to get them. However, Chuck and I keep missing each so here goes. First the coupon codes:

pegasus - this code will provide you with a $5.00 discount on the cup holder (about 13%)
donate2pegasus - this code should be used if you prefer that your discount be donated to the charity run, and I will match each donation 100%.

About the charity run -- It's March 31, 2012 in Lockhart, TX. It's being organized by a good friend Chuck from Chucks Leather, and it 100% of all proceeds go to Pegasus Schools, Inc. This is a very special place, and one dear to my heart and Chuck's. Pegasus is a treatment facility for abused and neglected boys and works with the most difficult kids in the state...and with types of kids they work with, Pegasus has one of the highest success rates in the country. I was one of the first employees over 20 years ago, and 20 years later I am still proud to say it.

You can find information about the benefit run here Chuck's Leather and Accessories - 2nd Annual Motorcycle Country

Thanks all!!

LMAO. THERE IS CHINA IN SOME IF NOT ALL THE MATIERALS USED IN THE CUP HOLDER. JUST LIKE OUR VICS. ALL AMERICAN MADE, YEA THEY ARE MADE HERE IN THE US, BUT THERE ARE ALOT OF PARTS THAT ARE MADE IN JAPAN, LIKE WHEN I TOOK OFF MY SPEED O BRACKET STAMPED ON THE BOTTOM WAS MADE IN JAPAN. BUT ANY WAY THERE ARE ALOT OF STORES WERE I RIDE AND IF NOT I WILL HAVE A COOLER FULL . STILL LMAO . CHEAP BASTARD CLUB. HE HE HE HE. NOW THATS FUNNY THERE NOW AND I DONT CARE WHO YOU ARE. AS ALWAYS ANOTHER POST SHOT TO HELL BE KD.

If the defense of my statements offends anyone, I apologize.....king dumb you have touched on a topic which I take seriously.  I too share, what I perceive to be, your disappointment with the state of American manufacturing.  That being said, please give me a little credit for saying that I sourced my materials here in the US, however it also happens that the ABS body, the magnet, the adhesive, and the rubber make the majority of the cost of the cup holder and all of those parts are actually manufactured here in the US; the body in North Carolina, the magnet in Texas, the adhesive in Tennessee, and the rubber in California.  I don't know where the faux leather wrapping or the metal for the metal band is manufactured, however the cutting, sewing, and shaping of those parts are done by American hands.  Regarding the US manufactured materials, I grant you that there is a high likelihood that that some if not all of the chemicals or machines involved making those materials come from outside the US.  If that disqualifies those materials from being called American Manufactured then by the same logic none of us are Americans because all of our ancestors came from somewhere else, those that were here never agreed to be considered Americans.

I admit that I did check into sourcing parts from China, and discovered that I could reduce my materials costs (after shipping expense) by almost 80%; however I still chose to stick with my American suppliers.  I did this because I firmly believe that if you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem, and with the current state of the US economy and the fact that it is this countries small business community that will pull us all up, that it is incumbent upon me to do what I can.  I know that in the quantities I'm purchasing I'm not making anyone rich; however maybe my order is the difference between a supplier losing $100 that month or breaking even that month...and maybe that owner made a decision that if he/she lost money that month he/she would lay somebody off...you never know how the little decisions we make can have a big effect on someone else.  I have two guys that I pay to help me build the cup holders, I don't them much but I pay what I can afford....that's 2 less people collecting unemployment.  Is any of this going to save our economy or balance the federal budget?  No of course not, but at least I can say I'm not part of the problem.  One last comment, if we go around knocking products that are manufactured in the US because some aspect of the materials came from elsewhere then we are actually discouraging people from manufacturing in the US because why should someone incur an 800% increase plus the tax consequences of manufacturing and/or sourcing materials in the US if they are just going to be slammed for it.

Stepping off my soapbox now, I'm done

Thanks,

Lee

BTW what keeps someone from taking it off my bike while my bike is parked some place on a ride?
I would think the fact that you can take it off and throw it in your saddlebag would prevent that.
What saddle bag?  I don't have ANY bags on my KP.  My only choices are leaving it on the tank and hoping its still there later or taking it with me.  That being said, there needs to be a way to keep people from just walking off with them while you're away from your bike.

We could rig it up with a bouncing betty....you wouldn't have bike left....but then again the worthless POS that touched your bike wouldn't have arms or a face either.

Sorry...poor attempt at humor....My wife and kids will tell you I have no sense of humor, they tell me all the time.

Actually Gary emailed me sometime ago offering any help he could provide, I replied but I have not had the time to reach back out to him.

Lee, Gary is top shelf. He purchased my carburetor business in 2007 and has really run with it. He talked K&N into making an air filter specifically for him with its own proprietary part number and has Dobeck making his proprietary "Bully" fuel controllers (just like Lloydz and the VFC 3). The venders that I was getting my custom-made parts from LOVE him and won't sell to anyone else. If nothing else, his advice is free... and he's a cool guy to talk to.

Best of luck with this venture, Lee. I hope your cup holders are more popular than pockets on pants.

Thanks HC, I've done B2B service businesses before, but not manufacturing and selling a B2C product.  That's one of reasons I really like the forums because it gives that feeling of knowing customers personally like when I was doing B2B.  Truthfully, I never intended to sell the cup holder I made it for myself because I couldn't find anything to meet my needs.  Then friends wanted it, and then last year rode from TX to NYC and stayed in the city for 2 months.  While I was there my sister, who wouldn't know a V-Twin from a Siamese twin thought it was the coolest thing she'd ever seen and convinced me to put it out there.  Frankly she was right, but don't tell her I said that.

Well HC you was quick to throw us all under the bus without any of us knowing what it takes to make his product and you only
replied after knowing what it takes to make them. WTF?
Lee now knowing what it cost you $40 sounds to cheap and sorry for not giving you the credit that was do but it would'a help
us make a more informed answer about what we think about your product if we knew what we know now.

No sweat, I should have gone into the story upfront.

Thanks!

Tough crowd..... Despite all your R&D and all your quality American made components... you're supposed to sell them for $20 and provide free shipping?

Welcome to the cheap bastards club. Here in the club, the phrase "You get what you pay for" is never spoken. Oh, they'll still shout "Buy American"  from the mountaintop... but they are the very reason people have their products manufactured in China.

I don't have a freakin' cupholder on my bike and I don't intend to, but IF I were buying one, I'd buy yours just because it's made for bikers by a biker in the USA.

See if Gary will advertise them and sell them on his web store.

I agree with the others.  I have a handlebar mounted cup holder that works just fine.  I see no reason to spend that much money to replace something that works just fine.

BTW what keeps someone from taking it off my bike while my bike is parked some place on a ride?

I would think the fact that you can take it off and throw it in your saddlebag would prevent that. That said, I agree on the price. Just once, I'd like to see someone selling a product for our rides that's a reasonable price, for what you're getting. 300 to 600 dollars for cheese wedges? I don't think so. 40 dollars + for a cup holder with a magnet? Refer to my last comment. Maybe I'll just get a cup holder and crazy glue a magnet and some rubber to the bottom. Thanks for the idea  :D

Believe me, I wish developing this had been that easy. It took me almost a year and almost 100 different designs and combinations of materials and adhesives; and then another year in real world testing before coming up with a product that I was proud to sell.  In designing the MAGnificent Cup Holder I had to take into account, vibrations, differences in the size of cups, the magnetic pull force to hold a heavy cup even over large bumps, eliminating noise from hard cups vibrating inside the cup holder, extremes in weather conditions, people spilling gas on their tank and how that would affect the rubber bottom, and a host of other issues that came up.

The cup holder is made of a high grade ABS which is tough and resistant to chemicals and the elements.  The magnet is an industrial magnet with over 100lbs of pull force.  The bottom is a special rubber that is not only durable enough to stand up but also won't degrade from having gasoline spilled on it, and ten has a coating so that black rubber won't leave a mark.  The same rubber is also used on the inside bottom, and the inside collar.  Finally the adhesive used is a high grade industrial adhesive that won't "crack" or "loosen" over time, so that the rubber stays put.  Additionally, the adhesive stays soft and flexible from -50 - 175 degrees so that if that there is no chance of any excess glue scratching a tank.

Developing and manufacturing this product really was and is more complicated than it appears.

Everyone has different preferences, one of the reasons I created this is was because I couldn't find a decent cup holder for under $50, and even then nothing that could hold a larger cup.  For me I want ice in my drink, which means you have to have a larger cup.  As far as the other question, nothing.  I can only speak from my own experience after using mine for more than a year including a trip from TX to NYC (including staying in NYC for 2 months).
