Electric Cruise for 2008?
« on: May 04, 2012, 05:35:53 AM »
Hey guys,
I saw an older thred atht touched on this but nothing posted in quite a while so I started a new topic to see if anyone has any newer info.. I have a 2008 KP Tour and I'd like to put cruise on it. The Victory plug n play version lists a compatability with 2009-2012 bikes which looks bad for me with a 2008. that said, the dealer parts guy said not to take that as gospel so I wanted to see if anyone here knows if it will work on an 08 and if not, has anyone found a good surrogate? I have heated grips so the wrist bar isn't viable...

Thanks.

I may be wrong about this but I think the different in the 08 models and the 09 -12 is the 09-12 are close loop EFI,  the 08's are not.

Product Review on the Go Cruise Throttle Control
Don't ride in front of me, I may not follow. Don't ride behind me, I may not lead.
Just ride beside me and be my friend.

Since someone else mentioned a manual cruise control solution I thought I would put mine in here as well. It's hard to beat a $25 solution that works but I will throw this out there. The brakeaway cruise control is a bit pricey but I LOVE IT! It not only looks good on the bike it works as advertised. Setting it and releasing it with your thumb is a snap. You can still turn the throttle manually if you need to make an adjustment or simply hit the brake lever and it pops off. Big safety feature over some other options. It has saved me a lot of hand and arm pain on long rides and I am not nervous about setting it even in semi busy traffic. It was a little tricky to install but I eventually got it to work properly once I played with it a bit.

I have an '08 (they went closed loop that year), and have been told that some of them are compatible with the cruise control. What I was told is to look above your oil filter. If you have a wiring harness there with nothing in it, that is where to cruise plugs into. I am not a wrench, so I don't know how true this is. I do, however, have a wiring harness there with nothing plugged in.

Hope this helps some. Best advice is to seek out a good mechanic that you trust, ad let him (or her) tell you.
