First would just like to say HELLO! Hopefully I will be purchasing a Victory soon and will be spending a lot of time on these forums.

Ok, so the wife and I decided we would like to purchase another motorcycle (so nice having her support). The last bike I had was a 2001 Sportbike. Needless to say I am too crazy on those bikes and I am getting older so I would like a cruiser (comfort for the wife too). I am not quiet 30 yet so it has to have that "custom" look to it. I have decided my next bike MUST be American made ( I am a professional Fire Fighter and a union member) and the Victory is what I will be purchasing and I am almost sure I want a Kingpin. So with my little knowledge of these motorcycles or cruisers in general, can you tell me a little more about these beautiful bikes. I picked the KP as I read its a better riding bike than the Vegas (is this correct) My next two questions I think I have answered on my own by reading here, but I am looking at an 04 KP and they have the 92i motor and 5 speed. Will I even notice this difference between the new bikes with 100/6? Especially since I have never really ridden a cruiser except for my Dads Ultra Classic HD (what a pig that bike was LOL)

Last question, I think I have found a great deal on an 04 and its not too far from me. I do not know all the details, but from the picture, it appears to have hard leather bags, rear backrest, aftermarket bars, and windshield. They are asking $8999 and it has just over 11,000 miles on it.

Thanks in advance for you advice and help. I love hearing from actual owners. There is only so much you can read and search for before asking questions.

As to the difference between the 95/5 and the 100/6 I do not know.  My first cruiser was/is an 06 KP with the 100/6.  6th gear is good at highway speeds and mine typically does not like that gear until 60-65 mph.  Most of my riding is on interstate so it works for me.  I have been told that the back seat is pretty comfy but I have never experienced it.  I do think that anything even a tricycle going up hill in a head wind would be better than the Ultraclassic HD.   ;D

I got mine new in July of 06 and have 28,500 miles now and really have not had any major issues.  From what you say, it sounds like the one you are looking at is a KP Deluxe.

Welcome and congrats

Gotta love the Kingpin!!!

I have an '04 myself and still have the stock 92ci motor.  I don't think you would be disappointed with the KP as your choice for a cruiser.

As far as the 5 speed in comparison to the 6, I haven't had the chance to sample the 6 yet.  I do know that the 5 could use an extra gear at highway speeds.  I have heard that an overdrive pulley is available that cuts the cruising RPM by about 500 which makes it much better at highway speeds.

I also know that if you wanna put a moderate bit of $$$ into it you can have a fairly stock motor that will put out right around 100hp.  You can do this for right around $1000.  This is without opening the motor itself.  Just head work, fuel controller, cams etc.

If you have any other ???, just let me know.

I have a 01' V92C, 92 cid 5 spd. and my 07 KP 100/6.
i know they are totally different bikes.... but... I really like 6th gear.
If you haven't ridden a 100/6 or a 92/5 maybe you should test ride both and make your decision based on what you like and what fit's your budget. Be careful though you might just like the 100/6 a lot

That's pretty much what I thought. The older KP's fit into my budget A LOT better. I want to stay around or below $10K. I just figured if it was THAT big of an issue I would save up and pay the difference.

I've got the 04 KP 92 ci w/ 5-speed and have rode the 100 ci w/ 6-speed.  That is what convinced me to upgrade to the OD pulley.  The 100 has a bit more torque but not much since I've also upgraded to the S&S Air Box, PCIII with custom Map and SVRT drag pipes.  Puts out about 90 hp and 90 ft lbs of torque.  Only thing better in an American cruiser is the new Vics.  See pic in the "Show me hour Exhaust" thread.

hey it is the older brother of mine.

Looks like it has modified slip ons and hand grips.  Put a vic luggage rack on it, the one made for the sissy bar, and it sort of hides the license plate the is shoved out there.

I put drag pipes on mine, S+S intake, PC III fuel controller, and a custom map and it dynoed at 95 hp and maxed at 117 mph.

Replacing the intake allows room for a Stebels Nautillus air horn at 138 db.  It is not only loud but hidden under the front of the tank without the trumpets.

As to the extra gear or not, take a really good look as to how you are going to ride.  Around town some moderate highway with the occasional long haul, you should be OK with the 5 sp.  I do 450-500 miles a week in the summer on the interstate so the 6th gear is nice.

My '05 KP is my second cruiser. My first, that other "American" brand, lasted about five weeks before I decided to go rent the KP at A**** N*** here in Vegas. Within the first few miles I was hooked. The '06 I rented was impressive, but I really don't see a lot of difference between the 92 and the 100 motors, especially since mine has been stage one'd. So, I bought it with 1700 miles on Ebay, and paid exactly in your price range. While I'm careful not to diss the poor folk blinded by the Harley wanna be syndrome, I know my bike is the best fit for me. Plus... mine is on the road more than in the shop!

There are lots of deals on bikes out there now.. I bought a 06 kp at the end of 07 and paid 10700 for it.. oops.. forgot to mention that it was brand new with "4" miles on it.. look around on ebay and some of the other websites.. as for the 92/5 and the 100/6... there is a big diff in the stock config's... about 10 hp and 20lbs torque.. I rode Harleys for yrs and my last bike had a 96" s&s stroker kit in it and my vic would and did blow it away.. A friend bought the hd and we some fun on the open road and needless to say.. He wasnt pleased!!!

I have an 07 kp.  Any of the kps are good but I think you would be happy if you go for the 6 speed.  Now is a great time to be shopping.  You may want to get in touch with as many dealers as you can.  Many of them have hold overs that they want to unload.  I have been hearing of some great deals.  My dealer just sold a new 06 Vegas for 9000.  So do a lot of leg work and it may pay off.  You might be able to get new for around your price range.  Even if you have to travel a little ways to get it saveing several thousand would be worth it.

I had an 05, and have an 08 now, and I really like the 6th gear. I don't notice the extra cubic inches, as I don't give it full throttle very often, but the 6th speed is essential to highway riding. Saying that, many people believe that the overdrive pulley works very well on the 5 speeds. Search this site, & you will find several threads on the topic
I think everyone you talk to hear will tell you that you are making the correct decision with Victory. Let us know if there is anything that we can do to help you.

The difference between the 92 and 100 motors is more apparent at low RPM. The first thing I noticed riding the two back-to-back was that the 100 was stronger on the low end.

I test rode the '05 KP, with 92 motor and 5-speed........ ended up purchasing the '06 KP due to the 100 motor and 6-speed. Major difference in my book! More power, especially at low end, and at freeway speeds in passing. The 6-speed is a MUST for highway riding, lowers the RPM significantly, which equates to better gas mileage. I've ridden on the highway in 6th gear, running as low as 50, and the bike still has enough "GO" to accelerate and pass vehicles. Did I say I love my Pin?
